Hollow Folk
Release date: September 2026
I mean this in the best way possible, but what did I just read?? Is this what an acid trip feels like? I really enjoyed the Appalchian gothic horror aspect and how the hotel was a main character. The descriptions of each and every room were perfect! I had a well produced movie playing in my head the entire time. I could hear the music playing on loop inside the hotel, feel the wind outside it, and taste the food and drink served within it. As the relationships between the main characters grew and matured, I found myself falling in love with them too.
I however, did NOT like the holes! Holes on bodies and holes in mushrooms. Trypophobia is real and that’s all I could think of. The lightning bugs were precious though. The symbolism was *chef's kiss* What do you mean lightning bugs come out of these holes and consume the space with light and beauty during the most intimate of moments? They really added whimsy to an otherwise dark and mysterious plot and setting.
